On March 22 an extended meeting of the Supervisory Board of Samara State Aerospace University (SSAU), chaired by Dmitriy Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation took place at the space launcher complex Vostochniy (Amur Region). In addition to the Board Members the meeting was attended by representatives of the state corporation Roscosmos and the management of Amur Region universities.

The Supervisory Board meeting was held within the framework of preparation for the first launch campaign of the new Russian space launcher complex. It is expected that in the spring of 2016 Samara carrier rocket “Soyuz-2.1a” will launch a small spacecraft “Aist-2D”, developed by SSAU scientists and specialists of the Rocket and Space Centre “Progress”, the first Russian students nanosatellite SamSat-218, also created in SSAU and a satellite of Moscow State University “Lomonosov” from the space launcher complex Vostochniy.

Therefore, the main theme of the Supervisory Board meeting was the solution of tasks on training engineers for the rocket and space industry of Russia and the space launcher complex Vostochniy, as well as the role of SSAU in the process.

Over the past decade, SSAU has trained over 11,500 specialists for the domestic space industry. Currently the graduates with diplomas of Samara Aerospace University are employed almost by all the main rocket and space centres of the country.

“SSAU is the main source of manpower for the Rocket and Space Centre “Progress”, which created a carrier rocket “Soyuz 2.1a”. The great part of the spacecraft, which will be launched during the first launch from Vostochniy, were made namely in Samara. And I found it necessary to conduct the Supervisory Council of the University here, to get people involved in the staff training and specific intellectual equipment of the space launcher complex Vostochniy, to stay nearby. The involvement in a big great event is extremely important not only for the Russian space industry professionals, but also for professors, teachers, students and future students of our leading technical universities who choose for themselves such a romantic and very important for the country profession”, - noted before the meeting, Dmitriy Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation, Chairman of SSAU Supervisory Board.

Members of the Supervisory Board emphasized that now a special responsibility is placed on SSAU for training of highly-qualified personnel for the new Russian space launcher complex Vostochniy and science town Tsiolkovskiy.

SSAU started systematic work in this direction in 2015. For example, in February and October 2015 students of SSAU Institute of Rocket and Space Technology and Engines and Power Plants worked their experience internship at the space launcher complex Vostochniy. According to their results five students expressed their desire to find employment at the space launcher complex upon completion of study.

In December 2015, Samara State Aerospace University and Amur State University (ASU) signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of joint staff training for the space launcher complex, as well as implementation of the series of research and development projects for the benefit of the rocket and space industry.

In addition, the constant work with prospective applicants is being conducted on the basis of SSAU offices in Blagoveshchensk. In November 2015, 15 high school students from Amur Region have already visited Samara University. They got acquainted with the University institutions and departments, and also looked at the major scientific and technological achievements of the University.

Therewith, SSAU is actively involved in the construction of the space launcher complex Vostochniy. In 2014-2015 almost 50 students of the University construction brigade have worked on the main space construction of the country.

“Conduction of SSAU Supervisory Board at the space launcher complex Vostochniy has become a symbol of the University involvement in solving of large national tasks. On the other hand, it is a big responsibility. People believe us. We are allotted a serious challenge of staff training for the rocket and space industry, creation a new competitive technology and conduction of the world-class scientific researches”, - underlined Evgeniy Shakhmatov, SSAU Rector.

Members of the University Supervisory Board have also reviewed and approved the implementation of the activity plan on realization of the second phase (2015-2016 years) of SSAU “Road Map” Competitiveness Enhancement Program) for 2013-2020, and identified priority tasks of the University in the next stage.
