From June 20 to 26, 2026, St. Petersburg hosted the 53rd School-Conference "Current Problems of Mechanics" (APM-2026). The event was organized by the Russian National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of RAS (IPME RAS), Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, and Monomax LLC, under the esteemed patronage of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Traditionally, this school-conference serves as a premier platform for knowledge exchange among scientists from various fields of mechanics and related disciplines, facilitating networking with industry representatives and the discussion of pressing scientific and engineering challenges.
Anastasia Romanenko and Maria Simashkina, students from the Department of Theoretical Mechanics at the Institute of Aerospace Engineering (IAE), proudly represented Samara University at the conference.
In the "General and Applied Mechanics" section, the students delivered highly relevant presentations:
- Anastasia Romanenko presented "Dynamics of a Space Elevator: Phobos Quasi-Satellite Orbit."
- Maria Simashkina presented "Executing a Rendezvous Maneuver with Fuel-Residue Space Debris via Tether Control."
Anastasia shared her enthusiastic impressions of the event:
"I was highly impressed by the organization of the conference; everything was structured clearly and ran on time. The program was thoughtfully designed, allowing me to attend the maximum number of presentations relevant to my research. I would like to specifically highlight the high caliber of the speakers, as well as the sheer volume and diversity of the research topics presented. The schedule was incredibly packed, and I wished I could attend every single session. I am thrilled to have participated, networked with fellow mechanics from across Russia, and, most importantly, shared my own research results to receive expert feedback, evaluations, and recommendations. A huge thank you to the organizers for such a fascinating event!"
In between conference sessions, the students also took the opportunity to explore St. Petersburg's rich cultural and scientific heritage, visiting the F.N. Chernyshev Central Geological Exploration Museum and the world-renowned State Hermitage Museum.
