SSAU Aeromodelling Student Design Bureau will participate in the student competitions on launching of the experimental rockets

SSAU Aeromodelling Student Design Bureau will participate in the student competitions on launching of the experimental rockets. The event is a part of the Annual International Student Forum “C'Space” in the French town of Biscarrosse. The Forum is dedicated to the development of universities activities in the field of designing of small rocketry and atmospheric sounders.
Since 2011 SSAU students take constant participation in “C'Space”. Performance features of Samara natives are that they traditionally present not just an abstract version of a rocket in the competition, but a flying model replicating the appearance of the existing launcher.
Within the framework of “C'Space” SSAU students have already performed 3 successful start-ups of carrier rocket models "Soyuz-2". At the same time, every year small rockets design is being improved. The new systems and sensors occur, mechanical part is being complicated. The first “Soyuz” model was equipped only with a rescue system and sensors that measured parameters of the flight. In the second one the insertion of useful load was tested on the atmospheric sounder simulator, so-called CanSat.
In 2013, SSAU students already performed the “international launch”. The Samara rocket has expelled CanSat, prepared by the students of the French University ISAE-Supaero (Toulouse). They performed separation of lateral rocket pods equipped with rescue system on the same model.
SSAU students Aleksandr Kvetkin and Ilya Kiselev will present a model of the perspective Samara carrier rocket “Soyuz-5” at the upcoming forum “C'Space”. The rocket design is made on a similar pattern to the previous models. However, the young designers have made a number of changes in it. In particular, they modified useful load fitting for easy performance of preflight testing. The load-carting skin is made using fiberglass moulded in vacuum. In some places it is supported by foam plastic inserts and mating rings.
Carrier rocket model “Soyuz-5” will take three atmospheric sounders at once to a height of about 700 meters. Two of them were created by the French part and one by SSAU students: Nikolay Selivanov, Aleksey Kumarin and Nikita Barskov.
As a part of CanSats launch it is supposed to perform several experiments. In particular, the French sounder will study the automatic guidance of paraplane drop. The CanSat created by SSAU students has the opportunity to make photomap of the region from plurality of images and send the information of the measured atmosphere parameters to the radio channel.
Also there will be an experiment on the rocket on measurement of motor power by the plates deformation measuring with tension gauges. Strain-gauge station processing sensors data is created by the same SSAU students that made the CanSat.
