THE EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY

In the structure of the University there are 9 faculties, 6 institutes, the branch in Togliatty with 2 faculties, which graduate the specialists with the high professional education, and there is the air transport college, which graduates the specialists with the secondary professional education.

In the structure of the University there are 55 chairs including 4 chairs of the branch in Togliatti. 737 teachers on the staff and 164 jobs-combiners carry out the educational process on these chairs.

During its lifetime since 1942 till 2007 the University has graduated 56 553 specialists including since 2005 till 2007 – 5 445 persons.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATIVE ACTIVITY

Since 2002 till July 2007 37 Doctors of Science and 130 Candidates of Science have been prepared at the University. Every year from 163 to 226 persons were trained in the postgraduate programmes, from 12 to 14 persons – in the doctoral programmes.

Every year about the thousands of students accomplished the research works under the supervising of the leading scientists and the lecturers of the University. Their results were reported on the university’s conference and on the regional students’ conferences, which were organized on the basis of the University. The All-Russian research conferences «Korolev’s readings» have been organized and provided at the University in 2003, 2005 and 2007; the Russian-European summer space schools « Perspective space technologies and experiments in space» was carried out  in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Every year more than 100 of students took part in the All-Russian and the International youth conferences, which were organized other Russian’s universities. For the last five years the students of the University have got 100 awards in the All-Russia open competition for the best student"s scientific work. In 2006 the volume of funds has made 1379 thousands rubles, which have been given by University for financing the student’s research works.

 For the last five years the researchers of the University have got 161 patents, including 36 patents in cooperation with students. The contract is concluded with «Central Specialized Design Bureau - Progress» on the sale of the unexceprtional licence on the manufacture of the folding wheelchair. The Chairs of the Production of the Flying Venicles, Quality control in the engineering industry, the Radio Engineering and Medical Diagnostic Systems, the Automatic systems of power units accomplish a good patent-licence work.

During each year the researchers of the University published from 170 to 270 scientific articles in the central press and foreign editions. 113 monographs are published for last five years.

For the first time the Proceeding of Samara State Aerospace University «Vestnik SSAU» has been published in 2002. It has been included in the list of the higher certifying commission for publication of works under thesis for a doctor"s degree. About 11 numbers are issued since 2002 till 2006.

Every year the researches of the University took part in the scientific conferences, symposiums, seminars (from 150 to 190 participants). For the last five years 57 scientific conferences and seminars, from them 7 – International and 12 – All-Russian, are carried out on the basis of university.

The scientific and technical developments of the researchers of the University, which have been presented at exhibitions of scientific achievements, have received 92 diplomas and 5 medals, including bronze medal of the World’s fair of the innovations, science and technologies in Brussels. The research laboratories advanced technological processes of the plastic forming (NIL - 41) and biotechnical systems and devices (NIL - 43) took active part in the exhibitions. In 2006 the University took part in 3 educational exhibitions, which have been organized following the results of the first year of realization of the priority national project «Education». It presented the innovative educational programme «The competence centre of development and preparation of world level the experts in the sphere of the aerospace and the geoinformation technologies». The project «CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM technologies in the preparation of the experts for the aerospace industry» was awarded to a golden and silver medal at the All-Russian forum «The educational media - 2006».

A number of scientists of the University has been awarded the state prizes of the Russian Federation in the sphere of the science and engineering and the governor’s prizes and grants for the big scientific achievements.

With the purpose of the organization and the efficiency increases of the scientific researches at the University the following subdivisions were created:

· Scientific center of the mathematical modelling  of the oil production’s processes (2002);

· Research institute of the system design (on base of the ONIL – 17, Research Institute of applied discrete mechanics, the computer centre of the Chair of the Flying Vehicle) (2003);

· Research laboratory of the electronic device – making and automation (2003);

· Research laboratory of the analytical devices and systems (2004);

· Research center of the space power (on base of the ONIL - 2) (2005);

· Research laboratory of the innovative automotive technologies (in the SSAU Togliatti branch) (2005);

· Research laboratory of the mechanics of a deforming solid body (2007);

· The intellectual property department and the department of the dataware were reorganized, and the departments of the dataware of the research and innovative activity and the intellectual property department were created (2007).

In 2002 scientific and technological park «Aviatechkonon» was transformed to the structural subdivision of the University.

In 2002 the University has won the contest by the international programme «The fundamental research and higher education». It has carried out by the American fund of the civil researches and developments (CRDF) and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation on realization of the large five years" project «Scientific and educational center of the mathematical bases of the diffraction optics and the image processing» with co-financing CRDF, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the government of Samara region. In 2005 the University has won the competition on project realization «The creation of the Samara innovative research center of the development and research of the magnetic – pulse technologies». Since 2005 SSAU together with the IPSI RAS realizes the project under the programme «the first steps to the market», with the partner in USA, the company «Hitachi Via Mechanics».

In 2004 – 2007 the active position of the young scientists of the University in search of the financing of own scientific researches has allowed to receive 11 scientific grants of Russian President, 19 scientific grants of Federal agency for education and 39 grants on competition, which was organized by the government of the Samara region.

In 2002 The University organized the scientific interdepartmental programme of cooperation between the Ministry of Education of the Russia and Open Joint Stock Company «AvtoVAZ» with the parity financing of projects. Since 2002 till 2004 the University was the head of 97 projects from 47 high schools of 32 cities of Russia. Since 2002 till 2004 the University carried out active work according to federal special programme «The integraion of the science and higher education of Russia». It realized the project «The research university of high technologies», in which took part the scientific and educational complexes such as «Laser plasma technologics», «Computer optics and the image processing», «Laser physics», «Fluid mechanics and mechanics of gas».

For 2002 – 2006 the total volume of the financing has increased approximately in 1,5 times in the scientific subdivision of the University and organizations, which have been established by the University (INPZ «The technology», the Institute of the acoustics of machines, Innovative center of SSAU). In 2006 it has made more than 80 million rubles.

The considerable increase of the volume of the scientific and technical services in the last years is the peculiarity of the activities of the University’s research part.

ONIL-1 (production and delivery of the MR – vibration - insulators), the test center «Unikon» (the realization of the tests to certificate the motor – parts and spares) render the largest volume of the scientific and technical services.

In March 2004 the University has got the certificate about the state accreditation as the scientific organization.

The innovative activities has considerably raised. In 2003 – 2007 the innovative developments of our University were represented at the district fair of the business-angels and the innovators of the Volga Federal region and were noted by diplomas. STP «Aviatehnokon» has got the certificate about the state and public accreditation and was registered in the list of the accredited University Technoparks according to the decision of STC of the Ministry of Education of the Russia № 18 from 04.03.04.

In 2004 the University has got the certificate, as the certified member of the Russian network of the transfer technologies.  In same year SSAU has started the programme realization of the additional vocational training «Innovative management of the high technologies». 30 persons, from which 24 – employees of the University, have got the preparation according this programme.

Since 2004 the University organizes and conducts the outside session of Jury for the Volga Federal region on the selection of the project in the programme «Start» of State fund for assistance to development the small form of enterprises in the scientific and technical sphere, which provides financing of the innovative projects, which are on the conceptual stage of the development.  22 projects of the University’s employees have won according this programme. In 2002 Samara State Aerospace University, Administration of the Samara region and Samara State Medical University have founded Open Joint Stock Company «Technopark». The conceptual and architectural projects of the regional technopark are developed in territory by the area of 5 hectares. In 2004 the first establishment of the technopark – the regional center of innovations and transfers technologies, the area of 1142 sq.m., is constructed and has begun the activity at the territory of the University. In 2007 the formation of the technical assignment to the building of the innovative village of SSAU is begun at the territory of the regional technopark. The innovative technological center is the modern center of high technologies with the industrial and social infrastructure, which is created on the basis of an educational institution.

Such directions as the nanotechnologies and nanoindustries; IT – technologies (CAD, CAM, CAE technologies of the products designing in the aerospace industry and mechanical engineering); the technologies of the parallel calculation on the basis of the highly perfomance systems; the creation of a new materials, including composition; the chemical technologies; the hydrogen energy; all these have started to develop parallel with the traditional scientific directions at the University.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY

The important forms of the international cooperation are the realization of the research team –works with the foreign scientists, the dissemination of the high technologies and complete scientific and technical works into the international market, the exchange of the scientific and technical information, the organization of the international scientific conferences and seminars, the publication of the joint monographies and the scientific articles with foreign partners, the different kinds of the international cooperation to increase the professional skills of the teaching staff, the interchange of the students and the post graduate students.

The SSAU is well-known abroad. Every year the information about the faculties, the specialities, the scientific directions, which are in existence at the University and the research institutes, is renewed and published in the publications of the international collections – Educational World, Education in Russia, in the World Wide Aviation. The rector of the University is the member of the International Association of Universities’ Presidents (IAUP) and the Association «Aerospace higher education».

The achievements of the SSAU were demonstrated at the international air shows MAKS (Russia) and Hydroaviation (Russia).

The University carries out the international conferences and the conferences with the international participation. Practically each all-Russian conference, which is organized by the SSAU, passes with the participation of the foreign scientists.

The University takes part in the in the city and the regional international programmes and the interchange, works within the limits of partnership of the cities Samara and Stuttgart (Germany), Samara region and the provinces Henan and Shenchzhen (Chinese People’s Republic), the lands of Northern Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). Every year one candidate of SSAU goes to Germany by funding of Samara city administration. The representatives of the University takes part in the events to attract the attention of the foreign investments to Samara region. These events carry out by the regional administration and Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The University has direct scientific, technical and pedagogical relations with the kindred institutes of  higher education. The works are executed in accordance with the direct agreements with the five institutes of higher education from Chinese People’s Republic: Harbin Polytechnic Institute, Beijing Polytechnic Institute, Taiuan Polytechnic Institute, Northwest Polytechnic Institute, Superieur de I’ Aeronautique et de I’Espace ENSICA (France), Valencia University (Spain). The intention protocol has been concluded with China Aerospace association. The University has included into Intergovernmental agreement on the scientific and technical cooperation of Russia and China.

Besides, The University has cooperated with the Stuttgart Technical University, AVL (Austria), Netcracker (USA), Rolls-Royce Company (UK) and DELCAM (Great Britain), SNECMA (France), companies European Society of propulsion motion SEP. There were the exchange of the delegations, the acquaintance with the workings out, which offer the mutual interest.

SSAU completed a number of successful projects on University developed technologies supply with companies of Finland, China, Latvia, and Ukraine. Students’ Design Bureau on Design and Production of light aircraft was developed in Kharbin Polytechnic Institute (China) and in accordance with the agreement; one of the aircraft produced in Student’s Design Bureau-1 (SDB-1) was handed over. The Technologies of the magnet-pulse treatment of the materials are put to Finland, to Beijing Institute of Aviation Technologies and to the Beijing plant «Capital». The super-heave loaded hydrodynamic bearings are put to Latvia’s electric power station.

SSAU works successfully with the grants of U.S. Civil Research and Development Foundatio. In 2004 the volume of the executed works was 692 thousand rubles.

The exchange of the students, aspirants and impropers passes in different forms. The students of SSAU won the grants to study abroad. The students and the young teachers passed the probation period in the different Germany’s institutes with the help of Germany service of academical exchanges DAAD. In the acordance of the direct agreements the students and aspirants have sent at the Stuttgart Technical University (Germany) and Superieur de I’Aeronautique et de I’Espace ENSICA (France).

For its turn, SSAU educated and took the foreign students and aspirants on the full-study and probation period. The students from Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Yemen, Cameroon, Kenya, China, Lesotho, Lebanon, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mali, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Peru, Tanzania, Tunis, Czech Republic, Ecuador are studying on the directions of Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and on the contract basis at the University. SSAU took the impropers from China, Germany, France. The students of Harbin Polytechnic Institute (China), Beijing Polytechnic Institute (China), Superieur de I’Aeronautique et de I’Espace ENSICA (France) studied at SSAU in Accordance with the direct agreements of cooperation. Two Ph.D. dissertations have been defended by the aspirants from China at SSAU. The contingent of the foreign students fluctuates from 38 to 45 persons from the far abroad and from 50 to 62 persons from the CIS countries. Every year the quantity of impropers averages from 8 to 17 persons.

The foreign graduates of SSAU work in the Ministry of Defence of Peru, in London’s airport Hitrow, in the Research Center of India’s military aviation.

The University in cooperation with the Russian academy of cosmonautics named after K.E.Tsiolkovsky and the European Space Agency organized and took part about two year in the summer schools on astronautics for students of the European universities (since 2003 each year).

Every year on average 50 teachers and employees are departed in the foreign business trips on the scientific and languages probations, scientific and pedagogical work, conferences, symposiums.

 In different years SSAU received the delegations from India, Kenya, China, Madagascar, France, Germany, South Korea, USA, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Israel. They familiarized themselves with the University, the educational process, the scientific and technical workings out, and established the business connection.
